AUCTION OUTCOME IS EXTRAORDINARY ACT OF KINDNESS

An ‘extraordinary act of kindness’ is what RE/MAX Living agent, Terry Lucas, tagged the donation of auction proceeds to charity.

The proceeds from an inner-city Brisbane home that sold under the hammer on the first Saturday of spring go to a charitable trust that supports medical research and education.

Following an opening bid of $1million, the four-bedroom on a 569sqm block in Coorparoo sold under the hammer for $1.332milion after three active bidders went bid-for-bid on the home, despite it being in dire need of a refresh.

Mr Lucas said the auction was an extraordinary act of kindness by Professor George Mellick on behalf of the homeowner who passed away some time ago.

“I felt privileged to market the home and this kind of campaign doesn’t happen every day,” he said. “With the generosity of the seller and the proceeds going to medical research and training young scientists, it was a very wonderful opportunity and experience.”

He said the auction campaign went very well.

“There was a great deal of local and interstate interest because Coorparoo is a very desirable area.”

“Many attended the open homes and private inspections, with some groups of potential buyers attending every open; and there were multiple offers prior to auction, including from young doctors who said they’d be there on the day to bid.

“They are now the new owners! What a wonderful outcome!” Mr Lucas said.

Auctioneer Dene Tucker from RE/MAX Australia said the auction was a special event.

“Professor George Mellick specialises in neurodegenerative diseases,” Mr Tucker said. “The sale proceeds will contribute to very important research and education, and when someone in the community gives back like this, it is heartwarming.”

Mr Tucker said the interest he’d seen across all RE/MAX auctions on the first Saturday in September was ‘off the planet’.

“The recent figures that we saw from CoreLogic show that Brisbane has the best capital city growth in the country, and, while we would love to see more new stock coming to market than is currently, we are experiencing really exciting times.”
