Time in an industry may shape experience, but what you do with that time and how you lean into change can determine your true impact, regardless of how long you’ve been in the job.
For Gold Coast-based real estate professional Wayne Holmes, building a successful career by delivering exceptional results for his clients is only part of his story. Speak to him about what he does for a living and the conversation quickly shifts from real estate to his passion for community service.
A staunch community advocate for his hometown of Robina on the Gold Coast, Wayne is heavily involved in multiple community organisations and charities, using his profile as a real estate agent to throw his support behind countless events and initiatives.
2025 has been a particularly significant year for Wayne, with his community contributions recognised through several awards. Most recently, Wayne was presented the inaugural McPherson Award by State MP Leon Rebello, honouring him as a ‘local hero’ for service to the community, and earlier this year, Wayne was named a recipient of the City of Gold Coast Disaster Recovery Hero Award for his efforts following Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the heavy rainfall over the Christmas and New Year 2023/2024 period. He also runs the popular Facebook page ‘I Love Robina’, using the platform to strengthen connections across the local community.
But perhaps one of Wayne’s most significant achievements of the year has been launching the community-focused initiative ‘Agents 4 Change’ in August.
Agents 4 Change is a collective of professionals who work with charities and community groups across the Gold Coast, leveraging their visibility in the community to provide support where it’s needed most.
“From a vocation perspective, like all real estate agents, I’m in a privileged position where I enjoy a profile within my community,” Wayne said.
“It’s real estate 101: be present, be seen and increase your profile to sell more real estate. But I’m not driven by being recognised as the number one agent. I do, however, want to use my profile to make change in my community in other ways.”
Wayne says it was his experience walking the famous Camino de Santiago Trail last year that inspired him to deepen his purpose and use his platform to build a legacy focused on helping others.
Continuing his grassroots community involvement, he saw firsthand the impact of simply connecting with and supporting people who are already doing meaningful work. This organically positioned him as a go-to contact for many within the community.
“I had been building this work in Robina, but the reach had started to extend beyond what I was capable of managing on my own,” said Wayne. “This is where the idea for Agents 4 Change really came together. I thought, how can I replicate what I’ve done in Robina elsewhere on the coast? Surely other agents want to help in similar ways, why not work together.”
Agents 4 Change is a group of professionals that focus on connecting with charities and community groups to help raise awareness in the community, focussing specifically on four key areas: domestic violence, youth, suicide prevention and homelessness.
“It’s important that we’re not recognised as a real estate group, but rather a group of business identities who are using their professional profile, in an industry known for visibility and engagement, to help generate awareness and change in other ways,” said Wayne.
Wayne says his goal for Agents 4 Change is to create a legacy and create a parallel between work and community purpose. Aiming to grow agent numbers throughout the region, the group has – in just a few short months – expanded to 15 agents from multiple real estate brands, stretching from Currumbin through to Maudsland.
“There’s been an incredible response, and it really reinforces that it’s a great idea. The feedback from the community groups we’ve engaged with has been phenomenal,” said Wayne.
“It proves that we, as real estate agents, have the ability to make a difference, in a different way, by utilising our community profile.”
