Winter has been particularly cold this year, even for Gladstone, and for local youth who may have been displaced from home due to domestic violence or other challenges, warmth and care are radiating from the team at REMAX Gold.
The Gladstone office has spearheaded the drive for over a decade, with owner/principal Shane McLeod sharing that supporting families – and in particular, youth – in need has been a cause close to his heart, one wholeheartedly supported by the Gladstone community. This year, 281 sets of pyjamas were donated in the month-long drive.
“Much like other parts of the country, there are many people here in Gladstone doing it tough, and a lot of the time, these are kids who find themselves in difficult situations which are completely out of their control,” said Mr McLeod.
The drive has seen fantastic support from the community, with the Gladstone real estate office acting as the collection point for thousands of pyjamas gifted to young kids throughout the central Queensland region since its inception in 2014.
“Initially, we worked with foster kids and children in care via carers with The Pyjama Foundation, and as the years progressed, we have worked with many different, local organisations filling this need each year.
“Just one set of donated pyjamas can make the world of difference to a child in a rough situation” Mr McLeod said.
“Quite often, these family separations occur in the dead of night, and all these kids need is to feel safe. A new, warm set of pyjamas can be that difference.”
This year, REMAX Gold has partnered with one of their long-term community partners, Roseberry Qld, who will handle distribution of the pyjamas using their strong links to local youth and families.
Mr McLeod said July’s Pyjama Drive has always been well-received not only within the office and partners, but throughout the whole Gladstone community.
“It been great to see the team get behind the drive once again, with a record number of donations this year and we look forward to continuing to support it and many other local initiatives.”
