A ‘PAWFECT’ AUCTION RESULT

A public trustee auction held on Saturday, February 10 has resulted in a very generous donation to the Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ).

RE/MAX Regency’s Ben Williams Team was thrilled to bring the property (deceased estate) to the market with proceeds from the auction going to help support the fantastic work of the AWLQ.

Mr Williams added it was only the second time in his career he had seen this type of donation.

The three bedroom, two bathroom Strathpine property sold under the hammer with 12 registered bidders, by RE/MAX Australia auctioneer Dene Tucker for $705,000, well over reserve.

In attendance was local Strathpine agent, Jim Tonakis of RE/MAX Solutions, who said that, despite the rain, the turnout was fantastic. “It was a great turnout and was great for the area,” Mr Tonakis. “Strathpine is growing in popularity and the suburb really is a hub of its own.”

With almost 50 people attending the auction, it “took off” with a great result, surpassing the street record for a complete renovated property.

Mr Williams was contacted by Animal Welfare League Queensland’s CEO Katie Garrett following on from his successful charity house auction in Robina last year.

This charity needs all the help they can get, they’ve really been struggling,” Mr Williams said. “No funds means no budget, yet cost have gone through the roof looking after all these sick and abandoned animals.

“Katie contacted us directly and because of the great work the charity do we wanted to help get the best results for them.”

Mr Williams shared the campaign lead up to the auction had a real buzz about it with a feel good factor, with early enquiries in the property from interstate and Asia. However, the sale was strictly through auction, with the property promptly sold to local first home buyers who were ultimately delighted with the sale.

“There’s always a feeling in the air come auction day, but this time it felt more of a positive, exciting buzz rather than slightly nervous,” he said.

“It’s great to have a successful outcome come auction day for any property, and for this particular one, knowing where the proceeds were going, for the ongoing support of the Animal Welfare League, made it extra special.”

Prior to their passing the deceased had adopted a dog from AWLQ, subsequently naming the charity in their will.

Animal Welfare League Queensland’s CEO Katie Garrett thanked the efforts of the Ben Williams Team and Dene Tucker in sale of the Strathpine property, sharing the charity is “thrilled” with the outcome from Saturday.

“These types of gifts are not common and it’s humbling to be trusted with this type of donation,” Ms Garrett said. “This type of giving will allow us to be able to support the community by continuing to provide a safe haven for animals, as well as the community vet clinic and boarding houses.”

For over 60 years the Animal Welfare League Queensland has survived on smaller donations of which Ms Garrett says they are very grateful for, and to receive something of this magnitude “means so much”.
